Cameron Kleimo's Bio

Cameron Kleimo is a San Diego-based marriage and family therapy intern, blogger and mindfulness practitioner. Formerly a first-grade teacher, Kleimo traded in her lesson plans for new adventures and spent three years living in New York City where her career path took an unexpected turn. She spent the next eight years traveling the country and making appearances on the Home Shopping Network as the Vice President of Education and Training for a cosmetics company.

After relocating to Los Angeles and meeting her husband, Kleimo decided to reconnect with her passion: working with children. She entered graduate school for psychology and began an internship as a marriage and family therapist, working primarily with children and teens. During her internship she joined a women’s mindfulness group and had the opportunity to study and practice mindfulness meditation, a skill that became an integral part of her therapy practice.

Kleimo’s career came to a halt after her first son was born. Almost immediately after his birth, she sensed something was “off.”  She repeatedly voiced her concerns about his inconsolable crying, feeding issues, difficulty falling and staying asleep, difficulty self-regulating, and gross-motor delays only to be dismissed and told he was “just fine.” Finally, at her insistence, her pediatrician gave her a referral to a pediatric physical therapist, who, within minutes of the evaluation, flagged Kleimo’s son with “sensory processing issues.”

Kleimo spent the next several years learning as much as she could about Sensory Processing Disorder. Out of her professional experience working with kids and families, her personal experience parenting a child with atypical development and her newfound knowledge about the link between sensory processing and child development, she launched Sensory Mom. Her goal is to provide resources, validation and support to parents navigating the bumpy and (sometimes) bewildering road of raising “differently-wired” kids.

When she's not putting her mindfulness skills to the test with her "spirited" boys, you'll find her surfing, singing or writing.

Kleimo has a B.A. in Sociology from UCLA, where she graduated magna cum laude, a M.A. in Education from Pepperdine University and a M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University.
